What is a Doula?

A doula is a professional, non-medical companion trained in the needs of the family. They provide clients with continuous support during pregnancy, labour and birth, and the postpartum period. I will be supporting you in your postpartum journey.

A Doula does...

  • Offer unbiased, non-judgmental support throughout your journey

  • Give constant encouragement and reassurance

  • A keeper of your space

  • Provide evidence based information

  • Give suggestions to help you make your own informed decisions

  • Help you deal with the unexpected

  • Reduce your chances of an unplanned c-section

  • Make it less likely you’ll use medication

  • Act as a huge support for your birthing partner

A Doula does not:

  • Perform clinical tasks.

  • Diagnose medical conditions.

  • Provide medical care or advice to parent and/or baby.

  • Make decisions for or speak to medical personnel on behalf of clients.

  • Offer advice or their opinion. They provide access to information, so that clients can make their own confident, informed decisions.

  • Have any agenda regarding their clients’ birth or parenting choices, acknowledging that this is a personal experience and they are facilitators, not directors.

  • Take control over baby care or provide baby-sitting services.

Hi, I’m Daphne, and this is the heart behind  Mama Mundo.

Born and raised in the Netherlands, I later called Portugal home for five years and now Berlin for six. I am 33 years old, married and a mother of two boys, Valentim and Rafael. I come from a big family, growing up with nine brothers and sisters, and I speak multiple languages: Dutch, English, German, and Portuguese. I embrace a plant based lifestyle and I am a creative finding joy in building beautiful things with my hands.

Becoming a mother for the second time has opened a new chapter in my life, shifting my priorities and deepening my understanding of what families truly need during the journey into parenthood. I know firsthand what it means to navigate pregnancy, birth, and postpartum far from one’s roots and family support. The language differences, cultural expectations, and the absence of close family nearby can make this time both profoundly transformative and emotionally demanding. My own experiences through birth and early motherhood have shown me how deeply families deserve to feel supported, understood, and held during this transition.

Alongside my certification training as a postpartum doula, I bring an evidence-based and grounded approach, paired with lived experience, deep listening, and practical, nurturing care tailored to you and your family. It’s a deeply meaningful way to walk alongside parents as they meet new life, new identity, and new beginnings, especially when doing so across borders and without their familiar circle of support.

Mothering in the world, supported across borders, no matter where “home” happens to be. - MAMA MUNDO
